The way we assess building energy performance needs a rethink. With buildings constantly evolving—through renovations, system upgrades, and regulatory changes—a 10-year-old EPC is often more of a historical record than a reliable indicator. Shortening the validity period to three years would ensure more accurate, up-to-date insights, helping property owners, investors, and tenants make informed decisions. More frequent assessments wouldn’t just improve compliance—it would foster collaboration between landlords and energy assessors, driving real improvements in efficiency and sustainability. It’s time for change, and the UK must act now.
